Traffic Switch Put in Place for Highway 81 Construction North of Yankton

Work on Highway 81 is still underway north of Yankton.

Greg Rothschadl with the South Dakota Department of Transportation says that they’re in the process of turning a two-lane road into a four-lane road.

Rothschadl says that Highway 81 is going under a traffic switch which will require multiple lane shifts to direct traffic through the work zone.

Traffic speeds will be reduced to 45 MPH during construction.

Rothschadl says that the initial work is expected to be completed by November with plans for a second project in 2025.

The initial project is estimated to cost around $16 million.
