Liggins Sentenced to 15 Years for Vermillion Stabbing

Chezayia Liggins, 21, has been sentenced to 15 years in the South Dakota State Prison for the stabbing death of Christopher Bartling in Vermillion last July.

Liggins pled guilty to charges of aggravated assault and 2nd-degree manslaughter back in March, which carried a maximum sentence of 25 years between the two charges.

Circuit Judge Tami Bern sentenced Liggins to the full 15-year penalty for aggravated assault, adding a 10-year suspended sentence for the 2nd-degree murder.

Liggins has spent 284 days in custody so far, which will be credited towards her sentence.
