Missouri River Cleanup Completed

The weather cooperated on Saturday morning for the 18th annual Missouri River Cleanup, hosted by the National Parks Service at Riverside Park.

Rollie French, one of many volunteers from Vermillion High School, said that this was his first time, but he had a great time with his friends and enjoying nature.

Almost 100 volunteers showed up to pick up trash along both the South Dakota and Nebraska banks, plus several islands, then enjoyed a fabulous lunch.

Stan Hoffart, a veteran volunteer from Yankton, says that he enjoys getting out in nature and helping keep it clean.

Caroline Ver Mulm, from the National Parks Service, says that they will not know the exact amount of trash that was removed until it is weighed on Monday, but they are very happy with the army of volunteers that came out to help.
