Man Charged in Fatal Shooting Near Hartington Set for Trial in April

The man charged in a fatal shooting near Hartington last March is set for trial in April.

David Phillips Jr., 20, of Louisiana, who is facing a second-degree murder charge in the murder of Israel Matos-Colon, 31, of Michigan, appeared in court Thursday for his pre-trial conference.

Phillips also faces charges for possession of a stolen firearm, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

Phillips’s trial is set for the week of April 15th at the Cedar County Courthouse.
