Belen Albertos Resigns as MMU Volleyball Coach, Assistant Sophia Lobo Paes Promoted

After three years in charge of the Mount Marty Volleyball program, head coach Belen Albertos will be stepping down from the position.

The Lancers improved every season with Albertos at the helm, going from a 5-win campaign in 2020 to a 10-win season in her final year. Albertos also captured more GPAC wins in her tenure than the Lancers had in the previous 5-seasons before her arrival.

Albertos said that the decision was a difficult one to make, but credits her time at MMU as one of the best things to happen in her life. She also thanks Athletic Director Andy Bernatow for his support to the university, the program, and herself as a coach and person.

Mount Marty has already decided on their next head coach, as Assistant Coach Sophia Lobo Paes will take over the role next season.

Lobo Paes, who hails from Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, brings a wealth of experience as a player and coach into the new position. As an athlete, she was First Team All-American as a setter in her freshman year and Second Team All-American as a right-side hitter in her senior year at Tennesee Southern. Off the court, she carries nearly a decade of experience as a coach.

MMU Athletic Director Andy Bernatow spoke highly of the new head coach, calling Lobo Paes an impressive addition to the university and volleyball program while thanking Belen Albertos for her leadership during her tenure, and wishing her the best in the future.
