YPD Responds to Two Incidents on Christmas Eve

The first incident involved a man that has been arrested for his involvement in an altercation that took place in Yankton on Christmas Eve.

Yankton Police Chief Jason Foote is reporting that officers were called to a report of a fight in the 100 block of East 3rd Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that there was an altercation and were able to stop a white Mercedes that attempted to flee the scene.

Officers were also able to determine that another vehicle had left the scene with three individuals inside that had checked into Avera Sacred Heart Hospital with wounds involving sharp instrument.

After an investigation, officers were able to determine that all three were involved in the altercation on 3rd Street.

Two of the individuals have been released from Sacred Heart, while the third victim continues to be cared for with their condition unknown at this time.

Officers are reporting that the driver of the white Mercedes, Basabe Viamonte Adonis, 34, has been charged with Driving Under the Influence, Contempt, and three counts of Aggravated Assault.

The second incident involved Yankton First Responders being called to a one-vehicle pedestrian collision on Christmas Eve.

According to Yankton Police Chief Jason Foote, upon arrival at the scene at the 300 block of East 15th Street, officers located a male who had been struck by a motor vehicle.

Officers are reporting that the driver of the motor vehicle was on scene and responsive, while the pedestrian was transported from the scene and treated for injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.

Foote says that the incident is still under investigation.
