October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and the River Rock Event Center played host to a recognition event for employers of those with disabilities and employees with disabilities in the Yankton area on Thursday.
During in the event, there was a panel of employees and employers that shared their stories and experiences.
Awards were also handed out during the event, including the 2023 Employer of the year, which went to L and M Radiator.
Katy Schlimgen, who is an HR Representative with L and M Radiator, says that they are honored to win the award.
Schlimgen says that L and M looks to find someone’s ability instead of their disability.
This year’s Pat Smith Employee of the Year was also honored during the event; this year’s recipient was Kari Steinert, who has been employed with Walmart for 30 years.
