The Yankton Police Department is reporting that they were called to a domestic situation on the 2200 block of Green Street Sunday evening.
Yankton Police Chief Jason Foote says that upon arriving at the scene, witnesses in the area said that they had heard a gunshot fired.
Officers were able to detain a male subject and discovered that a female had fled the area.
Officers were able to locate the female and determine that she was the victim of a crime.
Foote says that Michael Shelhamer, 33, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault domestic, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm, commission of a felony while armed, as well as a prior felony drug conviction.
