The Yankton Fire Department responded to a house fire at 213 West 5th St. in Yankton Wednesday afternoon.
Yankton Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles says that upon arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered a fire that had gone between the first and second floors that caused damage to the floors.
Nickles says that in addition to the floor damage, there was some heat and smoke damage, as well as damage to a hallway in-between two bedrooms.
Nickles says that the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and that the house has been unoccupied since 2020.
The fire is under investigation at this time.
