Search for Police Chief in Crofton Continues

The search continues for a new police chief in the city of Crofton, a position that has been open since the alleged firing of former police chief John Carter on June 27th.

Mayor Bob Evans said during Monday’s city council meeting that he has spoken to a couple of candidates about the position, but no hire has been made at this time.

While discussing the open position with the city council, Evans said that he has had discussions with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office about a contract agreement that would see an officer patrol the town, but the city council wants guarantees that they can send a deputy over daily before agreeing to the contract.

Evans says that one of the conditions laid out in the contract by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office is that the city continues the search for a full-time police chief.

The city council agreed to table the issue for now.
