Wanted Man Arrested After Escaping into the Missouri River

A man who escaped Yankton Police by swimming into the Missouri River has been apprehended by Cedar County and Nebraska authorities. At around 1 AM yesterday morning, Yankton Police spotted Robert Travis Reid, Jr., who had outstanding warrants in Yankton County. Officers pursued Reid until he ran into the river and swam at least 100 yards from shore. Yankton County Search and Rescue, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks, and National Park Rangers searched for Reid until 4 am. At around 8:30 Tuesday, Reid was spotted by authorities walking along Highway 81 in Nebraska, and was subsequently apprehended and arrested without incident by the Cedar County Sheriff, Nebraska Game Fish and Parks and the National Parks Service. Court records indicate Reid is facing meth charges from April 2023.
