Yankton Man Charged With First and Second-Degree Kidnapping Appeared in Court Thursday

The man charged with first and second-degree kidnapping in Yankton appeared in court Thursday morning.

Ricky Leroy German, 61, Yankton, had a motion hearing today at the Yankton County Courthouse for charges that stem from a hostage situation in March.

During his motion hearing, German requested that Mike Stevens, a Yankton attorney, be approved to assist German’s defense attorney, Garrett Horn, during his trial.

Horn cited his busy schedule as reasoning to bring Stevens onto German’s defense team.

Judge Cheryl Gering approved the request.

Due to Stevens late involvement, German’s trial that was originally scheduled begin September 18th, has been rescheduled to October 30th through November 3rd.

German is scheduled to appear in the Yankton County Courthouse on October 11th for a Change of Plea hearing.

German is next scheduled to appear in court in Charles Mix County on August 21st for charges separate of the kidnapping charges in Yankton County, which include an aggravated assault domestic charge.
