Santee Sioux Nation Leader Asks for a Rewrite of Grant Written by Former Crofton Police Chief

Alonzo Denney, the Tribal Chairman of the Santee Sioux Nation, is asking for a Crofton grant application letter written by former Crofton Police Chief John Carter to be rewritten after he objected the grant during last week’s Crofton City Council Meeting.

Carter says that he wrote the grant before his alleged firing in June and that the grant was worth $186,000 over two years for law enforcement funding.

Denney says that he believes the grant alleged that the Santee Sioux Nation has drug and human trafficking issues.

Denney says in addition to a rewrite, he wants a public apology from Carter and the City of Crofton.

Crofton Mayor Bob Evans said in a statement to KYNT that he is rewriting the grant application.
