Construction on Crest Road began in April for road improvements on the Nebraska side.
Mike Nuss, Chief of Technology Support at Gavin’s Point Dam, says that a majority of the repairs being done are concrete.
In the original announcement, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said that the expected completion date for the repairs was June 22nd.
Nuss says that part of the reason for the delayed completion date is because of contract materials and availability.
Initially, the plan was for the road to be open for the public during certain hours of the week, but Nuss says that once work began, they decided it wasn’t feasible to have vehicles drive on the road.
Nuss says that the target is to have the road drivable by the end of July, but plan to reclose the road for a few weeks in September for overlay work.
