Former Crofton Police Chief John Carter Holds Town Hall to Address Alleged Firing

Former Crofton Police Chief John Carter held a town hall meeting Thursday evening to address the alleged firing of himself and Sgt. Aubrey Miller from the Crofton Police Department.

Carter said during the meeting that he has not received a reason for his alleged dismissal from Crofton Mayor Bob Evans and that the only word he has received was in a letter that appeared to be from Mayor Evans that was posted on the official Crofton Police Department Facebook page on June 27th.

Carter answered questions from Crofton citizens during the meeting, one of which addressed concerns of an apparent lack of a local police department in Crofton.

Cody Thomas with the Nebraska State Patrol confirmed to KYNT that the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol have jurisdiction in Crofton, but Carter says that he believes that they may be too far away to respond in time in a serious situation.

Carter says that he was allegedly offered the opportunity to appeal his apparent firing at Monday’s Crofton City Council meeting, but he says that he will decline because he believes that the council’s decision has already been made.

The Crofton City Council will meet Monday night at 6:30.
