Crofton Mayor Releases Statement on Alleged Firing of Police Department

The Mayor of Crofton has released a statement on the alleged firing of the town’s Police Department.

Mayor Bob Evans said in a statement to KYNT Thursday that “The City Council and I are doing what is in the best interest of the citizens of Crofton. This our home and we are working diligently to assure that the citizens are safe and secure.”

Evans’ comments come after the apparent firing of Police Chief John Carter and Sgt. Aubrey Miller.

The official Crofton Police Facebook page posted a picture Tuesday of a statement that appeared to be from Mayor Evans, which said that the two officers had been fired.

Chief John Carter says that he believes that the dismissal of both he and Sgt. Miller was unlawful.

Cody Thomas with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) said in a statement to KYNT that both the NSP and Knox County Sheriff’s Office have jurisdiction in Crofton.

Thomas says that 911 calls would go to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
