City of Yankton Announces Flood Map Changes

City of Yankton Announces Flood Map Changes

A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) project has changed the City of Yankton’s flood zones and flood hazard maps.

Brad Bies says that the project will impact 28 eastern South Dakota counties.

Bies says that there will be properties in the Yankton Community that will be mapped in a flood zone, which is known as the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA).

Bies says that properties in the SFHA will be required by Federal law to carry flood insurance.

Bies says that the updated flood maps can be found online at https://fema.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=e7a7dc3ebd7f4ad39bb8e485bb64ce44

FEMA will be hosting a public meeting on June 15th at the Yankton Middle School Theatre at 5:30 p.m. to explain the changes and answer questions.
