High-Speed Chase on Highway 50 Results in Two Dead, One Injured Near Yankton

A high-speed chase on S.D. Highway 50 Wednesday afternoon resulted in two dead and one transported to the hospital with life threating injuries.

The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that they were notified by the SD Highway Patrol that they had initiated a traffic stop on a red Chevy that was heading westbound on Highway 50 in Clay County.

According to Sheriff Preston Crissey, the vehicle was traveling at speeds over 100 mph and refused to pull over.

Crissey says that the Sheriff’s Office, along with the Yankton Police Department were staged on Highway 50 near the city limits of Yankton when the Chevy struck a semi.

Crissey says that the names of the victims will not be released until the families are notified.

The accident is being investigated by the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office.

Also on the scene were the Yankton Police Department, Yankton Fire Department, Yankton County E.M.S., Yankton County Emergency Management, SD D.O.T., and the SD Highway Patrol.
