The South Dakota Board of Education Standards approved new social studies standards Monday, despite strong opposition across the state.
Yankton School District Superintendent Dr. Wayne Kindle says the decision could impact school staffing.
Kindle says that the school district surveyed parents and teachers in the district within the last month, and that around 90% of parents, and over 90% of teachers disapproved of the revised standards.
Kindle says that he feels that parents, teachers, and community members shouldn’t give up the fight against the new standards.
The Board approved the new social studies standards with a 5-2 vote.
