The Yankton School District held a recognition social Wednesday night.
During the event, they named their Teacher of the Year, who was Michelle Andrews, who has been with the Yankton School District for 18 years and teaches 8th grade English and Drama.
Andrews says that to her, winning the award means that she is representing her colleagues.
The school district also announced their Employee of the Year; the recipient was Ryan Olson, who has been a custodian at Beadle Elementary for four years.
Olson says that his favorite of the job is seeing the smiles on kids’ faces at school.
The school district also honored teachers and staff members that are retiring this year and those that retired in 19-20 and 20-21 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
