The South Dakota Board of Education Standards approved new social studies standards earlier this week.
District 18 Representative Mike Stevens says that he was opposed to the new standards, citing that they’re not developmentally appropriate for younger students.
Stevens says that another concern of his was that there weren’t any educators on the board that approved the new standards.
The new social studies standards could reach South Dakota classrooms by 2025.
