Hartington Murder Trial Moved to District Court

The defendant in a fatal shooting north of Hartington earlier this month has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

David Phillips Jr, 20 of Louisiana, who was charged with the murder of Israel Matos-Colon, 31, of Michigan, appeared in court at the Cedar County Courthouse on Wednesday.

Phillips faces charges of second-degree murder, possession of a stolen firearm, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

The trial will now move to district court.

Phillips is scheduled to appear in district court on Monday at 9 a.m.
