The Yankton County Commission, City of Yankton, Clay County Commission, and the City of Vermillion are considering adding a second leachate pond to help hold liquid trash.
Yankton City Manager Amy Leon said at Tuesday’s county commission meeting that pond would be constructed at the Vermillion landfill.
Leon says that the estimated cost of the pond is $1,043,200 and will need approval from all four entities as part of the Joint Powers Agreement, between the four parties to handle solid waste and recycling operations.
The Yankton County Commission voted unanimously in favor of building the pond.
