Yankton Area Resident Trains Rescue Dogs to Become Therapy Pets

Yankton area resident Tonja Gilmore is the owner of a private dog rescue on her property outside of Yankton which houses dogs with varying disabilities.

Gilmore explained that she started rescuing dogs because they still had plenty to offer to people despite their disabilities.

Gilmore, an occupational therapist by trade, says she has implemented dogs in therapeutic ways to help people unlock their full potential.

Gilmore first began using dogs for therapy in 2001, and says that dogs, and pets in general, are a powerful tool in therapy.
