Yankton County Refers Equalization Investigation to Attorney General

The Yankton County Commission says an investigation has been launched regarding allegations of a current Director of Equalization employee and a former employee participating in reducing of real estate and/or property tax obligations that they owed to Yankton County.

The County Commission says that it appears that someone who had access to Director of Equalization computers downloaded information off of County computers.

The Commission also says that the matter has been referred out of the county to the SD Attorney General’s Office and because of that, the Commission says that no immediate action will be taken to terminate or sanction the employee involved.

The County Commission says that they determined in executive session during Tuesday’s meeting to keep the matter confidential until the investigation is completed.

The County Commission added that the matter will continue to be investigated by out of county investigators.
