One person received life-threatening injuries in a one-vehicle crash east of Vermillion Tuesday afternoon.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says that a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck was eastbound on Highway 50 nine miles east of Vermillion when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a sign and a fence, then rolled. The vehicle eventually came to a rest in a ravine.
The vehicle was driven by an unidentified 66-year-old male. He was transported to a Sioux City hospital by helicopter with life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt. A 10-year-old male passenger in the pickup received serious non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt either.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
