There will be a Memorial Day service on Monday at the Old Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill. The Honor Guard will perform Taps at 9:40 am, with the service beginning at 10:00 am.
Located about half a mile east of Mission Hill, this church was built in 1869, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
It is believed to be the oldest Lutheran Church building still standing in the Dakotas.
Military veterans will be honored, the history of Memorial Day will be explored, and the origins of the term Gold Star Family will be shown.
The speaker will be Rev. Shadoe Hanson, with service being led by Vicar Mary Hendricks-Wilkins.
