New Speech-Language Clinic Opens At USD

The University of South Dakota School of Communication Science & Disorders hosted an open house at their brand-new clinic Friday night.

Located in the old McKusick Law Library in Vermillion, the new Speech-Language & Hearing Clinic is a state-of-the-art facility for students and patients alike.

Dr. Lindsey Jorgensen, Chair of the Communication Disorder Department, explains the importance of such a facility….

The clinic had been housed in what had originally been a dormitory at Noteboom Hall, but the new facility is a much more useable space for both treatment of patients and the learning by students.

As an example, for anyone who has had hearing screenings for the military or for a job, it usually takes a few minutes and is able to tell if you are having an issue. Going to the USD clinic will usually take about two hours but will give a very extensive report on the state of the patient’s hearing.
