Yankton School Board Candidates Discuss Issues

The COVID-19 pandemic, masking, and the proposed Yankton Early Childhood Education facility were all discussed at the Yankton School Board candidate forum sponsored by Interchange and Yankton Thrive on Monday.

Four of the five school board candidates were present at the event, including incumbents Sarah Carda and Terry Crandall, as well as challengers Amanda Johnson and Dr. Erick Messler. Lisa Hagemann was unable to attend due to a work conflict.

The proposed Yankton Early Education Center sparked conversation. Messler says there has been a lack of overall transparency on the proposed project…

Carda disagrees with Messler…

The two-part plan for the early education building includes a proposed 68,500-square-foot building, costing between $17.6 and $20.6 million dollars. The project would fall within the capital-certificate range of the district budget.

The Yankton School Board election is April 12th. City Hall is open for absentee voting all week during regular business hours.
