Yankton and Lesterville firefighters responded to a structure fire Monday afternoon.
According to the Yankton Fire Department, they responded to a structure fire call at a house along Highway 81 approximately ten miles north of Yankton just after 4:00 PM.
The occupant had left his home and was next door about ten minutes and saw smoke when returning home, and could not enter the home. The fire was found in the basement and extinguished by fire crews.
The origin of the fire has been found but no cause of the fire was determined.
A single person occupied the house, and no injuries were reported. The Yankton Red Cross is assisting the homeowner.
