The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Lake Yankton Island area Monday night concerning a male and female that were lost.
Yankton County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Rothschadl says deputies responded to the area around 8:30 PM and put their emergency lights on. They subsequently called the victim’s cell phone.
Eventually, deputies were able to communicate with the victims and they followed the lights to safety. The individuals were hiking and got turned around in the area and were unable to find their way out.
Rothschadl adds that it started to get darker and colder and the lost hikers called the Sheriff’s Office to get them out.
The victims reported no injuries.
