Rapid City Flood Mayor To Speak In Yankton

Don Barnett was the young mayor of Rapid City when one of the worst floods in American history hit the mountain town.

Fifty years later, Barnett has written Thorns and Roses,a first-person memoir of the horrific night of the flood and the aftermath.

Barnett won the Rapid City mayoral election in 1971 by going door to door. He won by 168 votes. Barnett says then five weeks later they had the flood….

The upcoming 50th anniversary of the flood prompted the book. Barnett says the American Spirit prevailed throughout the entire tragedy…

Barnett will speak about the book and sign copies of the book on Tuesday (March 22) at Muddy Mo’s Coffee House in Yankton. He’ll be present to sign books from 9:30 to 11:30 AM. Everyone is invited to attend.
