Firefighters from Nebraska and South Dakota fought a blaze Monday afternoon near the Chief Standing Bear Memorial Bridge connecting the two states.
The fire was located west of the bridge in Bon Homme County south of Springfield. The blaze stretched approximately three miles.
Bon Homme County Emergency Manager Eric Elsberry says a local landowner burned a tree pile in the area last week. With the dry conditions, the brush pile rekindled Monday, starting the fire. The area was still smoldering as of Tuesday afternoon.
Elsberry adds that no structures were damaged in the fire.
Niobrara Fire and Rescue were among other departments assisting in putting out the fire.
