Yankton Man Charged After Eluding Highway Patrol

A Yankton man has been arrested after eluding police in Clay and Union Counties Thursday night.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the pursuit stated just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday night on Highway 50 one mile west of Vermillion.

A Highway Patrol trooper tried to make a traffic enforcement stop on a 2005 Honda Accord. The vehicle went east on Highway 50 and then north on Interstate 29, eluding the officer. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Interstate 29, mile marker 35.

The 37-year-old driver, Keith Bobeldyk of Yankton, was taken into custody without incident. He was the only occupant in the vehicle. Bobeldyk is being charged with aggravated eluding a law enforcement officer in Union County. Additional charges are pending.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
