The historic old Yankton Post Office Building in downtown Yankton recently received a matching historic preservation grant from the South Dakota State Historical Society.
South Dakota historic preservation officer Ted Spencer says the grants are awarded through the State Historical Society’s Deadwood Fund grant program. Funding for the program is from Deadwood gaming revenue earmarked by state law for historic preservation projects throughout the state.
The Yankton Post Office Building has been awarded a twenty-thousand-dollar Deadwood Fund Grant to assist with repointing and masonry repairs on the building.
Building owner Alethea Higgins confirms with KYNT News that she is restoring the historical building with great plans in mind for the building and the Yankton area. She, however, did not confirm her plans with the building.
