House Panel Approves Transgender Bathroom Bill

House Panel Approves Transgender Bathroom Bill

In direct response to the Vermillion School District’s transgender bathroom policy, a legislative panel has endorsed a bill requiring transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that match their sex at birth.

The House State Affairs Committee voted 7-5 Monday to recommend passage of House Bill 1005.

The proposal from Representative Fred Deutsch of Florence comes following the recent passage of Vermillion’s transgender bathroom policy…

Deutsch questioned why Vermillion parents didn’t reach out to their local lawmakers about their issues with the Vermillion policy…

The legislation could be up for debate by the 70-member House of Representatives as early as Tuesday afternoon.
