Diploma Privilege Bill Stirs Controversy

Diploma Privilege Bill Stirs Controversy

At Yankton’s Legislative Cracker Barrell on Saturday, local Democratic Representative Ryan Cwach made some bold comments in opposition of the “diploma privilege” bill that has been introduced in the South Dakota legislature.

House Bill 1073, called “an act to provide for diploma privilege for admittance to the practice of law,” has been introduced by Republican Representative Mary Fitzgerald of Spearfish.

Cwach says the only reason why Fitzgerald introduced the bill is because her child cannot pass the South Dakota bar exam…

Fitzgerald says she isn’t surprised Cwach, a lawyer, is against her bill…

The diploma privilege bill has been assigned to the House State Affairs committee and will possibly come before the committee on Wednesday.
