On Friday afternoon, the Yankton community gathered at Fire Station #2 to celebrate the career of retiring Fire Chief Tom Kurtenbach.
After a forty-year career in firefighting, and the last 18 years as Yankton’s fire chief, many heartfelt feelings were shared with a full room of well-wishers.
During her proclamation, Yankton Mayor Stephanie Moser pointed out the firefighting community is a family…
Moser also complimented Kurtenbach on his leadership in the Fire Department and the City of Yankton. The Department has expanded and increased abilities under his leadership.
Thankfully, Yankton is not losing Kurtenbach, as he starts his new job on Monday…
Kurtenbach’s fondest memories is not of a particular call that they responded to, but of the relationships that he has with everyone in the firefighting community.
