Lesterville Man Involved In Fatal Nebraska Crash

A Lesterville man was involved in a fatal accident in Pierce County Thursday night.

Pierce County Sheriff Rick Eberhardt says that his deputies were called to the scene on Highway 81 near the Highway 98 junction shortly after 11:00 p.m., at which point deputies discovered a two-vehicle fatality accident.

A northbound GMC Envoy driven by 26-year-old Amanda Thackston, of Norfolk, had crossed the center line in front of a southbound semi pulling a refrigerated trailer, killing her.

The semi, driven by a 62-year-old Kenneth Schanche of Lesterville, suffered severe front-end damage. Schanche suffered minor injuries.

Thackston was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.

In addition to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the Pierce Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, Pierce Rescue, Pierce Fire and Hadar Fire all responded to the crash.
