Friday Declared White Cane Safety Day

Governor Kristi Noem has proclaimed Friday as White Cane Safety Day in South Dakota.

The white cane with the red band around the bottom is used to identify a person who is blind or visually impaired.

South Dakota Association for the Blind Board Member Nick Pavel of Sioux Falls, formerly of Lesterville, has been blind his entire life. He encourages motorists to always be aware…

Pavel says that he has had some very close calls while trying to cross streets…

Pavel adds to always ask first before trying to help someone who is blind cross the intersection.
