Mount Marty Opens Theatre Season Saturday

The Mount Marty University Performing Arts Theatre department will begin its season Saturday.

They will be performing a staged play reading to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the World Trade Center disaster.

“September Bears,” written by Jeff Barker, is based on the real events of teacher Sue Lucarelli, her classroom, her Manhasset church and the thousands of teddy bears that were provided for the children of New York City in the aftermath of 9/11. Curtain time is 2 p.m. Saturday.

While there is no admission fee to attend, patrons are asked to bring a ‘new or gently used’ teddy bear to be donated to Pathways Shelter for the Homeless and the Yankton County Contact Center.

The performance will be presented in Marian Auditorium on the Mount Marty campus.
