Permit Denied For Yankton County Housing Development

Despite the dire need for housing in the Yankton area, the Yankton County Commission denied a permit request for a multi-family housing development in Yankton’s Lake area.

On a three to two vote, the Commissioners rejected a conditional use permit for construction of eight ranch style duplex condominiums just north of Lewis and Clark Marina, west of Clark Trail Road.

Yankton County Commissioner Cheri Loest voted against the plan, because it doesn’t meet the county ordinance requiring at least one acre of land per dwelling…

Keith Eickhoff proposed the housing development. He says that this ordinance should apply to RV parks as well…

The permit and project were approved by the Yankton County Commission in 2008, however the project was stopped when the recession hit in 2008.
