Although masks are required in Yankton schools, they will not be required at indoor sporting events.
At their special meeting Tuesday, the Yankton School Board adopted a mandatory masking policy during regular school hours from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Some community members at the meeting urged the school board to require masking at school sponsored sporting events if they require them at school.
Yankton Athletic Director Ryan Mors says it’s an individual’s choice to attend a sporting event, it’s not a choice for students to attend school. He says that is why masks are optional at the sporting games.
Currently, the only indoor sports that are occurring indoors at Yankton is volleyball and competitive cheer and dance.
