Sales Tax Concerns Arising

Despite some areas seeing rain this past weekend, drought continues to plague the region.

Many municipalities, including Yankton, are concerned over how the drought and crop loss this year will affect the sales taxes numbers moving forward.

South Dakota Senator John Thune says there shouldn’t be major concerns thanks in large part to the tourism numbers this year…

Thune adds that with agriculture being South Dakota’s number one economy, there isn’t a whole lot that can be done to stop sales tax losses…

Thanks to the American Recovery Plan Act, cities and counties across the state will share sixty-five million dollars, potentially offsetting any potential sales tax losses pending the final rules being released on how they can spend that money.
