Vehicle Hits Transformer At Burger King

The Yankton Fire Department responded to two separate calls for service during Tuesday afternoon’s extreme heat.

According to Yankton Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles, Yankton firefighters were called to Burger King in Yankton just before 3:00 PM for a report of a vehicle that struck a power transformer and the transformer started on fire.

Nickles says that firefighters staged and waited for the arrival of Northwestern Energy to ensure power was disabled. Fire extinguishers were used to put out the small fire. Yankton Police Department was also on scene.

In addition, at approximately 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, firefighters were called to a grass fire at the Meridian RV Park, just south of the Meridian walking bridge. Nickles said upon arrival, they were informed that it was a controlled burn.
