Yankton School District Receives National Recognition

The Yankton School District has received a national honor.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin has named the Yankton School District one of the fifteen recipients of the 2021 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, in recognition of the school district’s exemplary support for its National Guard and Reserve employees.

The Yankton School District along with fourteen other recipients from across the nation were selected from over three thousand nominations received from Guardsmen highlighting how their civilian employers went far beyond what the federal law requires to support them.

Yankton School District supports their military employees with programs for National Guard and Reserve service members. The company ensures uninterrupted pay, compensation and benefits during deployments; and goes above and beyond in its compassionate support of service members and their families.

The award will be presented to the Yankton School District in a local ceremony at a later date.
