Two Women Killed in Cedar County Accident on Hwy. 81 (update)

A three-vehicle accident Saturday night in Cedar County killed two local women.  The crash involved two vehicles which collided head-on five miles south of Yankton Saturday evening and a third vehicle was also involved.

The drivers of the two cars that collided were pronounced dead at the scene, and the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office identified them as 64-year-old Elizabeth Braunsreither of Mission Hill and 30-year-old Samantha Plantenberg of Crofton, while a third driver from O’Neill was transported to the Yankton hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency crews from Yankton and Crofton responded to the scene and that stretch of Highway 81 was closed for several hours.  The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol are continuing their investigation, and authorities say seat belts were in use by the drivers.
