This is National Park Week, celebrating all 423 units of the National Park Service across the country including right here in Yankton.
The Missouri National Recreational River was designated in 1978 and Park Ranger Dugan Smith says even though there may not be many activities here these days, the River is still open for recreational use.
Smith says people can take part in recreational pursuits, including primitive camping, at places along the 59-mile stretch of the Missouri River in the Yankton area.
The Missouri National Recreational River is one of six National Park units in South Dakota.
