Yankton firefighter Mike Villanueva joined incumbents Nathan Johnson and Bridget Benson as the top three vote-getters in Tuesday’s Yankton City Commission election.
Villinueva says he’s excited for the opportunity to serve the citizens as a member of the Yankton City Commission.
Villanueva says Yankton’s preparation for medical marijuana and the wastewater treatment plant are two big topics to address right away.
Villanueva received 1,639 votes in yesterday’s Yankton City Commission election, Johnson had 1,374 and Benson gathered 1,264 votes. Curt Bernard was fourth with 480 votes, followed by Stacey Nickels, Michael Grave and Thomas Bixler. The votes will be canvassed and made official this Friday. There was 22.3 percent voter turnout in Tuesday’s Commission election, the highest turnout in a very long time
