The first reading of a temporary ordinance that would extend the local COVID 19 mask mandate into the last part of May at Monday’s Yankton City Commission meeting generated a wide-ranging discussion by members of the board.
Yankton Health Board member Dr. Mary Milroy says providing an update on current COVID 19 conditions at each city commission meeting would give the board the information needed to decide whether to continue the mask mandate or allow it to sunset.
City Commissioner Amy Miner says the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic continues to be a fluid situation that is constantly changing.
City Manager Amy Leon says it is possible to develop metrics based directly on local coronavirus conditions to assist in decision making.
Yankton’s municipal mask mandate extension will receive its second reading including the opportunity for public input at the next Yankton City Commission meeting set for February 22nd.
